Success Story: Island Market

  • Going out into our region is special to us. It allows us to get to know our customers personally and tailor an equipment solution directly to their unique situation or operation. One of our favorites is Island Market, which has a rich history in Eastsound. They've proudly served their island community for over 120 years, and the Orcas Island area is a better place because of it.

Recently, our own Chef Wade went to visit Island Market to work with Jacob and his team. Through our range of foodservice equipment solutions, we helped them through some of the basic challenges markets might face, in addition to issues far different because of Island Market's location.

island market transparent logo"Island Market is a small grocery store on Orcas Island, and as you may imagine, running a business on an island creates unexpected challenges," Jacob said. "We chose Pro-Pacific to procure our cooking appliances because of a great referral from another market in Seattle."

One of their biggest challenges was to find foodservice equipment that's reliable, works well, and requires minimal service. After all, they're on an island, and this can make service a bit difficult to say the least, especially when you consider how a downed piece of equipment can impact an operation over the course of a few hours, much less a few days.

"We spent almost a year planning our layout and designing the kitchen and menu," Island Market said. "It was great having Chef Wade work with us and make his kitchen available to our team to test, practice, and talk about all the options to consider."

Having this level of access, the ability to test equipment using hands-on recipes, was a critical component to the Island Market team. But the level of attention they received didn't stop after invoicing.

"A lot of companies do pretty well before the sale, but what I admire about Pro-Pacific is their commitment after the sale," Jacob said. "Wade and team have been engaged to make sure we were leveraging all the capabilities of our ovens and that we had the right training to clean and maintain them. Our kitchen is complete, but this is just the beginning of our partnership with Wade and the crew at Pro Pacific."
